Unleashed!

I set up shop at the Unleashed Market and waited for the wonderful and fabulous customers!  This is an 'alternative' market for those interested in cosplay, goth, steampunk, neo-victorian, rockabilly and more.

My painted boxes looked great on the blue velvet and I loved the purple mannequin.  I think I need a banner though, to let people know who I am.  I'm also thinking about being able to erect a screen behind me on which to hang paintings.

There were some wonderful artists at the show.

I loved some of the characters walking around.  Some were very scary!!

This pretty lady, on the right, wore a truly lovely pirate costume!  She is modelling one of my tiny hat headbands.

Make mine celtic!

I have always loved celtic art .... not necessarily the extraordinary designs for example in the Book of Kells, but the more bold and 'simple' designs found on Pictish stone carvings.  Several years ago, I learnt how to construct knotwork and spirals from scratch.  These two boxes are a good example of the patience required!!

The boxes will be on sale at the Unleashed Market on Sunday before I list them on Etsy.

To market...

I have been spending a great deal of time in the studio lately, painting every day and preparing for my stall at the UNLEASHED market this Sunday, Toombul Indoor Sports Centre, Bage Street, Nundah, Brisbane.

Painting, painting!

Currently I am working on a table setting to illustrate my Miss M aesthetic.  Lots of colour and pattern is the order of the day, not to mention a touch of the unexpected!!  I have painted one set of placemats and am now meticulously painting a pumpkin to be the centre piece.  I have handmade some paper mache bowls (20  layers of paper each) and will begin painting them soon.

It is now two weeks until my next market stall so I am feeling the pressure to produce.

As I mentioned before, I am a finalist in the Lethbridge Art Gallery 2013 exhibition.  Here is the link:

My work is in Part B and you have to scroll a fair way down.

Smart, witty and fun!

I am feeling very pleased and excited about where my current painting is going.  I love bright colours and quirky colour and pattern combinations.

I have two weeks left until my next couple of markets so I am painting every day!

I was inspired to recreate the map of Middle Earth on this box.  I love the old sepia effect.  One of the markets I will attend is the Unleashed Market at Toombul, Brisbane on June 30.  It specializes in goth, steampunk and fantasy themes so I will fit right in with my celtic/ medieval and fantasy work.

PS.  This is Grace keeping a close eye on me as I work!

Game of Thrones!

I have spent many a happy hour painting this fantasy heraldry!  Some coasters are finished and a dragon trinket box....

To Market, to market...

After last week's successful market stall, I feel energized to produce more art for my 'shop'!  I also want to improve my display, setting my work into context.  I am currently working on a range of very colourful home wares for the next Handmade Expo I attend.  They will be bright, happy and vibrant.  I am thinking of doing a table setting too...  I could have a lot of fun with that!!

On June 30 I hope to attend another market called Unleashed.  It has an 'alternative' flavour, promoting goth, steampunk and rockabilly stalls.  It appeals to my imagination enormously!  I will be producing some celtic/ medieval art with a touch of 'fan art'.  I'm playing with Game of Thrones heraldry and am thinking of doing a Lord of the Rings box too!

My First Show!

Photo taken by Avonleaphotography on Facebook

We had a great turn out for the show.  My stall was at the top of this picture by the wall.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself, meeting lots of people, talking art and even making sales!  Hopefully will be back again next month for more!
